Time for a tour!
It really was a feast for the eyes, as our consortium walked through The Singapore Discovery Centre.
We first encountered various multimedia videos which touched on nationalism (singapore's history eg. racial riots), nation-building (singapore initiatives eg. hdb, bilingual schools, speak mandarin and the 'stop at 2' campaig), and internationalism (singapore brands who have made a name for themselves globally like polar puff, bread talk, charles and keith).
Next, we watched a comical video entitled, 'So Singapore!' which struck a chord in our hearts as we could laughingly relate to the Singaporean Identity. Our love for food and complaints rendere laughs from our group.
Continuing with the comic act, several of our teachers put on their impromptu dancing shoes and danced to some
Wushu-inspired moves. A shame we could not video them to upload it here!
Fun and laughter aside, we then watched a video, complete with vibrations and realistic sound effects called, 'Can Singapore Collapse?'. It really was a revelation and provided food for thought to us teachers who might have taken Singapore's success and survival for granted. The insightful video might serve as a good reminder to our pupils to treasure the comforts our nation is able to provide at this point of time.
From our nation's history, identity and sustainability, we then moved on to learn more about our security forces at the Army Museum.
The highlight of the tour was definitely the simulation of an army ambush! It was an amazing sensory experience, with sights, sounds and even touch! From the deafening explosives to the cooling water mist, the consortium watched in awe and it was truly an unforgettable experience.
